Personal Statement
The first thing you need to know about me is Portsmouth is my home. I was born and raised here. My father worked in the Naval Shipyard. My husband and I own a home and a small business in Portsmouth.
I dread picking up the newspaper or turning on local news because I know Portsmouth will be the subject of some dreadful story - shootings, racial tensions and or a seemingly dysfunctional city government.
We are often portrayed as reactive rather than proactive.
Examples abound of employers leaving. From Big Lots on Portsmouth Boulevard to the TCC Visual Arts Center and the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame on High Street, organizations that hire our citizens and pay taxes are exiting. We must stop the bleeding.
So, what do I bring to the table? Years of working in the medical field taught me a careful, deliberate, strategy that applies to any situation. ASSESS, PLAN, IMPLEMENT and EVALUATE a plan of care. I will bring this approach to city government.   Running a small business similarly provides valuable lessons. Prioritize based on what your customers want, not necessarily on what you want. If you don’t satisfy your customers, they shop somewhere else, taking their money with them. Provide outstanding customer service and treat all customers with respect and dignity. Again, lessons that can apply at City Hall.

Portsmouth needs and our families deserve a city council that works for them. One that makes decisions based on informed judgement and fiscal responsibility. One that is responsive. One that is proactive rather than reactive. I will bring these values to Portsmouth City Council.  I am happy to talk with you about your hopes and concerns.  (757) 535-1210
